MACC seizes some of Azeez's 'underwater' timepieces

MACC seized 20 watches from Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, but not all of them were genuine.

According to The Star, Azeez revealed that some of the watches were "triple A" grade "underwater" pieces.

"I could not produce the certificates for most of the watches as many are fakes. I bought them because they look nice and I shared them with my son.

"Of course, a few pieces are genuine. I have been working for over 30 years, of course, I can afford to buy a few real watches," he told the daily.

MACC had seized items and money from Azeez's homes in Kedah and the Klang Valley in recent days. They also visited his office in Perlis.

Azeez said the RM500,000 seized was from the Baling Umno account and was meant to be used for buka puasa events and other party expenses.

"It took them quite a while to count the money as most of it was already in envelopes which were meant
to be distributed to the people during the buka puasa events," he said.

As for the foreign denominations - reportedly valued at RM400,000 - seized by the graftbusters, Azeez said that these currencies were collected during the many humanitarian missions which he had
participated in.

Azeez is the leader of Kelab Putra 1Malaysia, a volunteer and humanitarian outfit which performs missions abroad.

He also revealed that the MACC seized his wife's jewellery and estimated it to be worth between RM50,000 to RM70,000.

He pledged to cooperate with the graftbusters and commended them for their professionalism.

"The officers were really professional, nice and even respected the time for breaking fast and joined us for prayers," he said.

He declined to respond to allegations that an "MP from the north" had interfered with MACC investigations on 1MDB in the past. 

"Northern MPs can be anyone from Perak, Kedah, Perlis or Penang. As long as my name is not mentioned specifically, I will not respond," he said.

MACC has yet to reveal why they are targetting Azeez. - Mkini
