Najib and son win uncontested in Pekan Umno polls

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his eldest son Mohd Nizar have won uncontested for the posts of Pekan Umno chief and youth chief respectively.
Division committee member Abdul Rahmi Yahya confirmed with Malaysiakini that Najib had won his post uncontested, while Mohd Nizar's victory was reported by Bernama.
Mohd Nizar, 40, replaces Shahruddin Ahmad, who had surpassed the Umno Youth age limit.
He has vowed to restore the party's glory, saying it must get rid of money politics.
"(Delegates) today were very committed, and proved that Umno is a relevant party... what needs to be done now is to get rid of its arrogance, money politics, and anything negative, as well as win back the heart's of the youths," he was quoted as saying.
At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, acting president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that 73 of 191 party division chiefs won uncontested.
These include both those retaining their roles and those contesting for the first time.
“Of the 191 party divisions, 73 chiefs have won uncontested.
“This is a manifestation that democracy has been carried out well….and that people have judged that certain leaders do not have to be contested against,” he told a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur today.
Zahid did not offer the press a full list, but confirmed that he had retained his post as Bagan Datuk Umno chief.
