Education ministry withdraws permit for two teachers who abused students

The Education Ministry has withdrawn the teaching permits of two teachers whose abusive action on children in a private kindergarten in Malacca went viral on social media yesterday.
The ministry in a statement said the action was taken to ensure the teachers would not have any interaction with students or work in the kindergarten concerned.
“The operator (of the kindergarten) was also given a stern warning over their negligence in running a learning centre for children between the ages of four and five,” it said.
The incident took place at Tadika PPKK Seri Bijak Bestari 3, Taman Tasik Utama, Ayer Keroh, which is a private kindergarten registered under the Education Ministry.
The ministry has also instructed the Malacca state education department to assist in the management and operation of kindergartens during learning sessions.
The matter is now with the police for further action to be taken against the teachers concerned following a police report lodged on Saturday (Aug 11) by the kindergarten manager, added the ministry.
According to media reports, the teachers aged 21 and 40, were arrested by police yesterday for investigations under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001.
The first video on the social media site was for a duration of two minutes and 10 seconds showing one of the teachers lifting a female pupil and placing the child on top of a boy who is lying down.
The second video which runs for 36 seconds shows one of the teachers slapping a boy until he falls off a chair.
