Anwar does not rule out revamping Dr M's cabinet

Anwar Ibrahim has not ruled out revamping Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's cabinet when he succeeds the latter.
The PKR president-elect said he would make a decision based on the performance of the existing ministers.
"I think the option is always given to the new leader to decide.
“I have not thought about it yet; it all depends, because they have one, one-and-a-half years to prove themselves. If they are effective, they should continue.
“If they are mediocre or lacking in expertise or their performance is poor, naturally we have to revise. I mean that is expected," he told Channel News Asia.
Anwar is slated to replace Mahathir in two years - but he has repeatedly indicated that the timeframe for the transition is flexible.
This ignited speculation of Anwar's political future, with certain quarters wondering if a repeat of the 1998 fallout was on the cards.
However, both Mahathir and Anwar have insisted that the ties between them remain cordial.
Meanwhile, Channel News Asia said Anwar was coy when asked who he would like to see as his deputy once he becomes prime minister.
"It's for the MPs to recommend, for the parties to decide. I should not pre-empt that.

“There is, of course, a broad understanding but only in terms of my position. There’s no insistence or even lobbying for the next person to be deputy prime minister," he added.
Anwar's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the current deputy prime minister.
Anwar, 70, is slated to return to the Dewan Rakyat after a three-year hiatus via the forthcoming Port Dickson by-election. - Mkini
