D-DAY TODAY FOR SPM TOP SCORERS NON-BUMIPUTRA (ESPECIALLY INDIANS) MATRICULATION PROGRAMME "REJECTORS"

The schedule Cabinet meeting today will decide on the rejection of so many SPM top scores non- bumiputra candidates, especially Indians from getting placement to do their matriculation programme this year.

It was earlier revealed that the Education Ministry had adopted the 90% bumiputra and 10% non-bumiputra allocation and offer letters for successful candidates have already be issued and mailed.

The Education Ministry claims that this programme was initially mooted for the bumiputra or Malays and over the years have accommodated non-bumiputra intake up to 10%.

Last year under former premier Najib's BN tenure, realising that the Indians are now the backward class, an allocation of 2,200 Indian students and 1,000 Chinese students were offered with a promise to increase this intake in the coming years. But the Education Ministry claims that it was just a "one-off thing".

Non-bumiputras especially Indians feel that the Pakatan Harapan had done a U-turn on their promise made during the GE14 that more allocation of educational places would be given to Indians if the PH get to control Putrajaya.

Most Indians and non-bumiputras regret for having voted PH into power.

Since placements have already been offered without discussion with all the stakeholders, most feel that today's Cabinet Meeting will not be able to do much except to give a promise to look at it the coming year. But, however, we need to give the Cabinet the opportunity to discuss on this issue and give their final outcome. - Mohd. Kamal Abdullah
