Muhyiddin: Experts needed on PM's Johor remarks to avoid confusion

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin (above, right) wants experts to weigh in on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks about the Johor constitution being null.
He said this is to avoid public confusion on the matter.
"Let's say what Tun (Mahathir) said is right and what the (Johor) crown prince (Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim) said is wrong, someone must verify who is right.
"If it involves the constitution, experts (must weigh in) so there is no room (for misinterpretation).
"A says A, B says B. The public will be confused, and this is not good," Muhyiddin told reporters when met in Petaling Jaya today.
With this in mind, he welcomed the olive branch extended by Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to the federal government to hash things out.
He said this includes hashing out interpretations over the state constitution.
However, Muhyiddin said for ties to heal, the sultan must admit that he, too, had caused unease and therefore he stop "disturbing" the Johor state government.
Yesterday, Mahathir said the formation of Malaya in 1957 had invalidated the state constitutions of Johor and Terengganu.
Following this, Tunku Ismail took to Twitter and pointed to two articles in the Federal Constitution pertaining to federal guarantees of state constitutions and the sovereignty of the rulers.
Johor's constitution was established in 1895 while Terengganu's constitution was drawn up in 1911
The constitutions of all the Malayan states are the basis for the formation of their respective state legislative assemblies, as well as the guiding law on how the state government should be formed.
Mahathir's remarks come after disagreements with the Johor palace over who decides on the appointments of the Johor menteri besar and members of its state executive council.
Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters after chairing a Bersatu supreme council meeting at the party's headquarters.
Several party leaders said the meeting was aimed at reviewing the party constitution.
Supreme council member A Kadir Jasin said part of the review was to protect the party from "money politics".
Bersatu vice-president Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman (above) said issues of membership would also be reviewed.
All the amendments will be brought to a party extraordinary general meeting, he said, pending the completion of the proposed review. - Mkini
