PETALING JAYA: DAP will take appropriate action against Jerantut division chief Loo Why Leong who is alleged to have threatened the district police chief.
DAP deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming said this is in line with the principles of the party, which respects and adheres to the law.
For now, he said, it will give ample space to the police to conduct their investigation.
“We leave it to the police to investigate. Once the police come to a decision, then the party will also take the necessary action,” Bernama quoted him as saying during a visit to the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park in Gebeng, Kuantan, today.
Loo was arrested at the Jerantut district police headquarters at 3pm yesterday to assist in the investigation into alleged criminal intimidation against police chief Mazlan Hassan.
He was released on bail after his statement was taken.
The 53-year-old party leader was alleged to have sent an intimidating message to Mazlan via the WhatsApp’s application last Thursday.
Jerantut police had earlier said that Loo had been arrested and his mobile phone seized when he went to the police station to make a statement after Mazlan had lodged a police report about the chat message.
Images of the message had been circulated widely on social media, in which Loo had allegedly said that “Sesiapa nak lawan PH, akan datang dia pun tak boleh aman” (“Whoever wants to go against PH won’t be at peace in future”).
The message had been sent to Mazlan.
According to images of the message, Loo was angry at being arrested when he tried to stop police from detaining a party member in an investigation into the sale of illicit cigarettes and liquor, and confiscation of the goods.
It is understood that the police seized duty-unpaid cigarettes and alcohol allegedly sold by a man, who also held a party post.
Pahang police chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad confirmed that Loo was released on police bail after his statement was recorded yesterday evening. - FMT
