A Pahang DAP division leader was arrested earlier today and had his mobile phone seized over an allegedly threatening message sent to Jerantut district police chief Mazlan Hassan via Whatsapp.
When contacted, Pahang state police chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad confirmed the arrest of Jerantut DAP division chairperson Loo Why Leong.
"He was arrested today and released on police bail," Zakaria told Malaysiakini.
Separately, Mazlan also confirmed he had personally lodged a report against Loo on Friday.
"I confirm the incident (report) but I can't comment on other matters.
"Wait for police investigations," Mazlan told Malaysiakini.
It is understood that the 53-year-old had allegedly sent the threatening message to Mazlan due to unhappiness over his first arrest on Thursday.
It is also understood that Loo at the time had allegedly attempted to prevent a senior police officer from arresting a DAP division secretary accused of selling alcohol and cigarettes "without tax".
Malaysiakini is still trying to contact Loo.
Meanwhile, Pahang DAP secretary Lee Chin Chen said he was not aware of Loo's arrest today but noted that the latter was similarly released a few hours after his first arrest on Thursday.
Lee added that Loo had also denied sending the allegedly threatening message. - Mkini
