Lawyer says those behind ‘Azmin’ videos had access to leaked personal data

Lawyer N Surendran.
PETALING JAYA: The lawyer representing Mohamed Azmin Ali today said those behind the series of videos allegedly implicating the economic affairs minister had access to “leaked personal data of party members”.
N Surendran, who said Azmin had given his statement to the police yesterday, also spoke of “obvious signs of an organised and systematic attempt to discredit and bring down the minister”.
“The videos are a slanderous and politically motivated attack against him.
“The perpetrators had access to leaked personal data of party members, sophisticated means and a clear political agenda.
“We trust the police will get to the bottom of this soon, and identify and take action against the culprits according to law,” he said in a statement.
Yesterday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor said a task force comprising senior police personnel and those from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and other agencies was looking into the authenticity of the sex clips.
He said there was no need to seek foreign expertise so far.
To date, the police have recorded 21 statements on the matter.
The clips, which went viral on social media last week, show two men allegedly performing homosexual acts.
PKR Youth leader Haziq Aziz, an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, claimed he was one of the men and identified Azmin as the other. Azmin has strongly denied this and threatened to take legal action over the matter. - FMT
