PETALING JAYA: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has urged the state government to address racial imbalance in the civil service.
According to a report in The Borneo Post, the party made the demand in a motion passed at its triennial delegates conference (TDC) in Kuching yesterday.
The motion calls for the Sarawak government to set up a Cabinet committee to look into the racial imbalance in the state and federal civil service.
It also called on the state government to draw up strategies and guidelines to address the issue.
In 2016, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen questioned the racial imbalance in the state civil service. Then, he said the Dayak and Chinese communities were underrepresented, accounting for less than half of civil servants in the state.
Meanwhile, the TDC also re-elected Dr Sim Kui Hian as its president for another term. Sim is also the Sarawak deputy premier.
Senadin assemblyman Lee Kim Shin was elected the party’s new deputy president. - FMT
