Covid-19 (May 22): 1,817 new cases, 2 fatalities

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 1,817 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,491,320.

Active cases currently stand at 26,511, up 18.6 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (768)
Kuala Lumpur (331)
Penang (140)
Malacca (104)
Negeri Sembilan (98)
Perak (85)
Johor (69)
Kedah (52)
Sabah (43)
Putrajaya (36)
Sarawak (35)
Pahang (22)
Kelantan (15)
Terengganu (12)
Perlis (6)
Labuan (1)


Another two deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as “brought in dead”.

Over the past week, an average of four people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 5.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,643 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 96 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2235 deaths in March.

The deaths occurred in Kedah (1) and Selangor (1).

There are 1,087 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 40 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (129) followed by Johor (115) and Sabah (58). - Mkini
