Has 2019 anti-corruption plan been ditched, says think tank

Tricia Yeoh said there was no need to reinvent the wheel by instituting a good governance plan.

PETALING JAYA: A policy think tank has questioned whether the government’s National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) launched in 2019 had been abandoned after the MyGovernance plan for good governance was instituted.

Tricia Yeoh, chief executive officer of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs, said there was no need to reinvent the wheel.

The NACP was Malaysia’s most comprehensive policy with clear goals to end corruption. More effort should be put into implementation as well as measuring and tracking success, she said.

However, Yeoh said, the renewed priority for a Political Financing Act was welcomed.

She called for transparent disclosure of donations and expenditure, public funding and for an independent regulatory body to be included in the Act.

The NACP was introduced by the Pakatan Harapan government in 2019 and underwent a mid-term review last year. - FMT
