Officials puzzled by message about tiger on the loose in Ampang

The wildlife department says there is a lack of information about the matter.

PETALING JAYA: A viral WhatsApp message about the alleged sighting of a tiger in Ampang has prompted the police to launch a probe.

Ampang Jaya police chief Farouk Eshak said the team dispatched to investigate the claim in the early hours this morning found that a security guard had allegedly sighted a tiger near a lamp post in Jalan Tropika, Kemensah 3, Kemensah Heights, Ulu Kelang.

“There was no further information, and the police have not been able to track him (security guard) down until now,” he said.

Officials from the wildlife and national parks department (Perhilitan) have not been able to locate the tiger due to a lack of information. Perhilitan officials were still trying to track the tiger down as at 6pm, said Farouk.

He said Zoo Negara also informed the police that there were no reports of escaped tigers from the zoo.

“So far, there have been no police reports on the incident and no eyewitnesses have come forward,” said Farouk.

“We urge members of the public who have any information about this case to step forward and cooperate,” he said, going on to remind the public not to spread unverified news. - FMT
