Perak DAP vice-chairperson Abdul Aziz Bari’s open declaration that he intends to contest the Tambun parliamentary seat in the next general election has prompted Perak Amanah Youth to urge all quarters to respect the ongoing negotiations.
"Perak Amanah Youth would like to remind Pakatan Harapan leaders at all levels to respect the mandate given to the members of the (Harapan) seat negotiation committee, which was set up to manage the seat allocation.
"Public statements that are personal in nature should be avoided out of respect for the negotiation process in order to preserve harmony and any issue should be brought officially to the committee," its chief Khairol Najib Hashim said in a statement.
Khairol said Perak Amanah Youth takes Aziz Bari's (above) statement offering himself in Tambun as a personal wish that is not binding.
Abdul Aziz had expressed a desire to challenge Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is the incumbent MP in Tambun.
Khairol said Perak Harapan has many suitable candidates with merit to field in all seats, including Tambun.
"Surely, as a youth wing, we will work towards putting a candidate who is more energetic in every seat so that Harapan can win in the 15th general election.
"As the Perak opposition leader, Abdul Aziz should put more focus on championing state issues and improving Perak Harapan's support," Khairol added. - Mkini
