Amanah rejects Annuar's offer to meet protest leaders over price hike

Amanah has rejected the offer by Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa to meet with price hike protest leaders to find a solution to the inflation crisis.

Instead, party central committee member Faiz Fadzil made three demands to Annuar, who heads the special jihad task force on inflation.

“Return subsidies on all basic needs, place back approved permit (AP) onto imported goods, and for all MPs to discuss this issue.

“We have to show empathy towards the rakyat,” he said when speaking to reporters outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.

Faiz and other party members - Youth chief Sany Hamzan, Bukit Katil assemblyperson Adly Zahari and Selangor exco member Izham Hashim - were called for questioning under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Sany said they also plan to organise a flash mob outside Parliament to protest against price hikes on July 16.

Yesterday, Annuar said he was willing to hear ideas from the protest leaders.

“To those who are demonstrating, if they want to help, help me find a way. I’m no Superman,” he had said.

The minister was responding to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu's remarks that a larger-scale protest could take place in the coming months against inflation and corruption.

Upgrade bureaucracy system

Speaking to the media today, Adly called for an upgrade of the bureaucracy system, citing the fact that it takes longer for a business proposal to be approved in Malaysia compared to other countries.

“In my experience of talking to local farmers and businesspersons, I have noted that our bureaucracy has never changed (from before the pandemic to now) and will always take up to a year to approve a business proposal.

“Meanwhile, in other more successful countries, it takes only nine days for the proposal to be approved,” said the former Malacca chief minister.

Adly also stated that Amanah and Pakatan Harapan will keep protesting against the price hike of goods until action is taken.

Izham meanwhile compared the Selangor government’s methods of dealing with food shortages with the federal government.

“If the Selangor can spend money to help the residents of Selangor, what’s stopping the government from reducing the weight load of the rakyat and doing the same for them.

“The Selangor government will keep working to help the citizens with their daily needs,” he said.- Mkini
