KOTA BARU: The 3-year-old boy hospitalised after being overdosed on drugs last month, has returned home.

His mother said they returned to their home in Dabong, Kuala Krai last Thursday.

"After being warded at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai for eight days, my son was finally discharged from the hospital.

"His health is improving and his condition is almost back to normal. I am really grateful to God as my youngest son is so much better.

"He is active again and moves around every corner of the house," said the 36-year-old mother of three.

Although she was unhappy with the punishment meted out to the suspect, she said she had no choice but to accept it.

"Compared to the cruel act that he did to my son, l believe he deserves more than that," she said.

The boy was rushed to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here after high traces of drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, were found in his system last month.

The hospital lodged a police report, which led to the arrest of the boy's 32-year-old relative who is believed to be a drug addict.

On June 28, the suspect, a trader, was sentenced to three years' jail by the Kota Baru Sessions Court for causing the child to overdose on methamphetamine and morphine.

Judge Mohd Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli pronounced sentence on the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charge of exposing the boy to harmful substances and causing the victim, who is his cousin's son, to suffer drug toxicity.

The incident happened at the riverside of Kampung Sri Jaya, Mahligai, Kuala Krai at 3pm on June 18. - NST
