NEW YORK: Wall Street investors and Main Street America chief executives learnt first hand about the progress of Malaysia's transformation programmes from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his supporting cast made up of the country's top corporate leaders.
The Americans were told by Najib that “Malaysia is a great place to invest” as the economic and government transformation programmes offered some US$440bil worth of investment opportunities.
“In the coming decade, thanks to the ETP, GTP and the dedication of my government, Malaysia is fully going to step up to the next level.
“Now is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor. So Malaysia is only going one way, and the earlier you get in, the greater the rewards you will reap,” Najib said in his keynote address at the inaugural Invest Malaysia 2011 New York on Tuesday.
The roadshow is unique because it is hosted by the New York Stock Exchange and jointly organised by Bursa Malaysia, JP Morgan,Maybank, CIMB and Mida. The participating Malaysian companies areAirAsia, Genting, Axiata, Petronas Chemicals, Kencana PetroleumSapura Crest and Genting.
Besides getting in early, Najib also listed nine other reasons why the corporate America and US fund managers should invest in Malaysia.
Among the reasons are the progress of the ETP and GTP as well as the increasing number of other foreign investors coming to Malaysia.
He also assured his audience that his government was determined to be transparent and practised good governance with the passing of laws like the Whistleblowers Act and the setting up of the new MyProcument website for government tenders. - Star
