Himpunan Hijau won't breach Dataran cordon

Himpunan Hijau has vowed not to breach the cordon surrounding Dataran Merdeka, where the group had initially planned to spend the night.

Speaking to some 2,000 supporters at Markaz Tarbiyah PAS Taman Melewar, Himpunan Hijau's leader Wong Tack urge the group to act lawfully.

"Make sure we don't push the barricades... Make it very peaceful. Let it be a peaceful night tonight," he told the group before they continued their march towards the city centre.

Wong said that Dataran Merdeka was not the group's final destination and that they have made their point.

"What's more important is after today and what how we move forward in future.

"Everyone has heard us. So we don't have to be forceful. Be calm. No provocation," he said.
'Our purpose is peaceful'

He said Himpunan Hijau supporters must show the world that they are caring people.

"We are here to protect our nation and safeguard our children's interest," he said.

Himpunan Hijau is now at their final leg of their 300km march from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur in protest against the Lynas rare earth refinery in Gebeng, Pahang.

The march began on Nov 13 and the number of participants have been steadily increasing.

Previously, the group had planned to spend the night in Dataran Merdeka and receive a delegation of MPs tomorrow morning to state their protest.

However, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had issued a noticedbarring "all activities" from taking place at Dataran Merdeka.
