Nizar: TV3 implied WWW1 bid made using public funds

Former Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin told the Kuala Lumpur High Court today that TV3 had defamed him by implying that he had in his Twitter message written that the bidding for the vehicle WWW1 licence plate by the Johor sultan was made using public funds.

Nizar (right), in his RM50 million suit against Sistem Television Malaysia Bhd and another, said that he had never referred in his tweet that he accused the sultan of using public funds.

“The defendant, without checking with me, had manipulated my Twittermessage and defamed me where they had adjudged, given an opinion, and made their own speculation without referring or contacting me.

“They have seriously defamed and this is a serious offence as they had used the words ‘accused’ and ‘public funds’ to give a negative connotation that it was directed to the sultan. The defendants had not referred to me to get verification whereas my tweet has its basis.”

Nizar, 55, said the defendant’s action was ill-intentioned as its newsBuletin Utama programme on May 30 last year, had given a negative picture of him with regard to the sultan as if he was anti-sultan and against the royal institution.
