He said the news portal needed to uphold journalism ethics by not spinning news stories or original statements to make them controversial.
“You (Malaysiakini reporters) always twist statements, in fact too often. You create things which are not there. You better write the real stuff.
“I will monitor every word, every sentence, every paragraph and every news item in Malaysiakini. You don’t play fire with me. You always spin.
“Please try to write according to journalism ethics, okay?” he said while pointing a finger at a reporter from the news portal at a press conference in conjunction with his first day helming the ministry, here.
Zahid was also firm in not wanting to apologise to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng over his statement (on those not wanting to accept Malaysia’s existing general election system and preferred another system to migrate to another country) which he said was misconstrued.
“He (Lim) should apologise to me as he has misconstrued my statement. It’s not for me to apologise to him,” he said in a serious tone. — Bernama
