PARLIAMENT The Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (PCA) Amendment Bill was tabled for second reading in the Dewan Rakyat today, despite opposition and civil society calls for it to be deferred.
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi(left) read the Amendment Bill for the second time, to enable debate to begin.At the same time, PKR’s Gombak MP Azmin Ali has claimed to see “signs” that 10 other Bills before the House may be deferred as the current sitting will conclude tomorrow.
He told Malaysiakini that he had met both Ahmad Zahid and speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia, seeking more time for the Bills to be debated.
However, deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee said any such deferment will depend on the government's discretion and that a decision will be made later.
