Police are the authority to get information from former PetroSaudi International employee Xavier Andre Justo and they should be allowed to do the job.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said this was despite Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar's failure to meet the Swiss national, the central figure in the alleged involvement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the misappropriation of the 1MDB funds, in Bangkok a few days ago.
Speaking at her Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the old state Legislative Assembly Building today, she said it was likely Khalid could not meet Justo as the Thai police were still in the midst of their investigations.
"If we step in, this may distract the whole process as this involves collecting evidence and the filing of a legal action.
"This is a normal process in any sovereign country and the investigation is not just done perfunctorily," she said.
Probably when the Thai police had completed their job, they would assist Malaysia, she said.
Nancy said the public should not think Khalid's failure (to meet Justo) was deliberate.
"There are people who may not understand or realise this procedure. They begin to doubt the government's ability and pass negative comments as if it was adopting a lackadaisical attitude in the matter.”
The police, she added, should be given the freedom to complete their investigation. – Bernama
