Woman pleads not guilty to keeping the girl from 2011 to 2013.
JOHOR BARU: A Filipino woman has pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here to trafficking a young girl from Sabah.
Estrellita Tabanao Padilla, 55, a Malaysian permanent resident, was charged today jointly with Jasrin Yakin, 28.
They are accused of trafficking the child, then 12 years old, by forced labour from 2011-2013.
She was accused of committing the offence at Jalan Jayamas 9, Taman Jaya Mas, here from Jan 15, 2011 to May 17, 2013.
Padilla was charged under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act. The charge carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and maximum fine of RM500,000 upon conviction.
She was arrested in Pasir Mas, Kelantan last Jan 5.
