Menteri Besar agrees to take up the post after receiving huge support from the public.
ALOR SETAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has agreed, by popular demand, to assume the presidency of the Kedah Football Association once again.
He said the decision was made after taking into consideration the reaction and feedback of Kedah ‘Lang Merah’ supporters via surveys done on social media.
“There was a huge request from the supporters for me to assume the post. Although some feel otherwise, my current inclination is to accept the offer of KFA president and to give my best to ensure our team can return to winning trophies,” he told reporters here last night.
He said that for the time being, he would be leading the KFA unless there were others who wished to contest the post at the annual general meeting to be held later this year.
On May 15, former Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah resigned as KFA president. Honorary secretary Aminuddin Omar and treasurer Yusof Ismail quit the following day.
Also on May 16, KFA deputy president Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah and members of the KFA executive committee met with Mukhriz Mahathir, requesting that he lead the association.
Mukhriz said he and the other members of KFA had a huge responsibility on their shoulders to shape a strong and steady team.
“All of this cannot be done alone. It requires the cooperation of all parties to make it happen. It also requires high commitment and huge expenses, but so far it’s all good, so I hope it can be translated into victories on the pitch.
Asked about the remaining vacant posts in KFA, Mukhriz said there was already a list of candidates and an announcement would be made once the review was finalised. -FMT
