The only local-based Chinese component party in Sabah BN announced its withdrawal from the coalition, a day after component Upko said it is leaving the coalition.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional is disintegrating, with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) today announcing it is pulling out from the coalition.
Its president Teo Chee Kang, who lost his Tanjong Kapor state seat, said the decision was made following the general election where his party lost.
“Admittedly, with the defeat in all the four state seats and one parliamentary seat that we contested under Barisan National, LDP suffered a major setback.
“Taking heed of the clear message that Malaysians want a change in the regime, I discussed with the majority of my supreme council members, and the general consensus is to take a step back and pull out from BN.
“As such, I have called for an emergency supreme council meeting at the party headquarters at 8pm tonight to endorse and formalise the decision, and to determine how the party should chart our journey from here,” he said.
Teo, who lost to Parti Warisan Sabah’s Chong Chen Bin by a 2,992-vote majority, said in view of this he would not take up any position in the present Sabah state government.
