Palace denies Selangor sultan interfered in PM's appointment

GE14 | Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah did not interfere in the appointment of prime minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, the palace stated today.
State ruler's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said the ruler regretted that such fake news was being speculated in the social media.
"The Selangor sultan has said he was not involved at all in influencing Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the appointment of the prime minister," he said in a statement.
"His majesty regrets that such fake report has been circulated on the Internet, by linking him to the interference in the post of prime minister.
"As such, his majesty once again reminds the rakyat not to easily believe fake news on the Internet or social media, which was meant to cause tension between the palace and the state or federal government, and affects the harmony among the rakyat," he said.
Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to be sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister in a ceremony this evening.
In the final GE14 tally, Harapan candidates who contested under the PKR logo secured 113 parliamentary seats, enough to form the new government with a simple majority.

PKR also supported one Independent candidate in Batu, while Harapan’s ally in Sabah, Warisan, gained eight parliamentary seats.
However, Umno president and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said no partyhad won enough seats to form a federal government and that it was up to the Agong to decide who the seventh prime minister of Malaysia would be.
On April 20, the Selangor palace issued a statement stressing the ruler's neutral stand. -Mkini
