CIMB Group chairperson Nazir Abdul Razak, the brother of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, was tonight spotted at a Bersatu Aidilfitri open house.
The event, which took place at SJK (C) Pandamaran A in Klang, was hosted by Bersatu strategy chief Rais Hussin, who also heads the party's Klang division.
Nazir was accompanied by his wife Azlina Aziz and son. He was seated beside the Bersatu strategy deputy chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan at a table adorned with the party logo.
He had been critical of the previous BN administration, despite his brother being the prime minister.
In February 2015, he and his siblings issued a rare family statement to rebut Najib, when his aides claimed his wealth was inherited – stating that such claims tainted the name of their father, former prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein.
The statement came five months before the Wall Street Journalrevealed multibillion ringgit deposits in Najib's personal bank accounts, which investigators claim originated from the state-owned investment firm 1MDB.
Najib had denied wrongdoing or taking public funds for personal gain.
In the May 9 general election, he led BN to its first defeat in 61 years.
Nazir had praised Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad when the latter was sworn in as the new prime minister.
"Mahathir has always gone to great lengths to praise his mentor Tun Razak (even at the height of tensions with Najib and Umno).
"Both of them share the same determination to nation-build to the best of their ability and limits of personal sacrifices," he had said. -Mkini
