AZMIN SHOULD WORRY: BOMBSHELL – ON THE DEFENSIVE, MUSTAPA GIVES A HINT OF WHERE HE’S HEADED IN DR M’S CABINET – THE ECONOMIC AFFAIRS MINISTRY

KOTA BHARU: Jeli Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said his decision to join the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was not done in a haste, but after careful consideration following a month of performing special prayers to seek guidance from God.
He said prior to his party movement, he had numerous discussions with certain individuals and considered many recommendations.
Joining Bersatu, he said, was the right move.
“I have heard people making sarcastic remarks, as well as those giving me their opinions on the matter. I am very open to criticism, as long as they are done tactfully.
“I admit it was not easy to part with Umno, but in politics you need to be courageous. I understand if certain parties are upset with me, but I forgive them.
“What’s important is my intention to the fight for the people of Kelantan. In politics, we have to be ready to listen to dissenting voices and not react irrationally. What people tell you actually serve as a reminder for you to evaluate yourself,” he said during a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly Kelantan.
Mustapa, who is also Air Lanas assemblyman, said he made the decision in order to continue his fight for the rights of the people in Jeli.
“Tun Dr mahathir Mohamad has received the mandate from the people, so it is important that we give our full support to ensure the country is on the right track.
“I will also give my full assistance to Economic Affairs Deputy Minister Senator Dr Radzi Jidin as he is the only Deputy Minister from Kelantan.
“The Prime Minister’s recent speech on the need to bridge the gap between states is a good start to our journey,” he said.
Asked if more Umno leaders in Kelantan would follow in his footsteps, Mustapa said he was not aware of it and hoped to serve as a good example to all.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob expressed his best wishes to Mustapa who joined Bersatu last Friday and congratulated him on the movement.
Ahmad was earlier responding to the additional question by Mustapa at the Kelantan State Assembly today.
“I thank Air Lanas (assemblyman) for the question, but first I want to congratulate you on your movement and wish you all the best ,” he said.
Earlier, Mustapha, who is also the MP for Jeli, submitted additional questions to the Menteri Besar.
Mustapa also thanked Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya’kub for approving his leave during the sitting of the state assembly and express his gratitude to the advice given by other assemblymen on his party movement.
Abdullah then asked Mustapha to confirm if news about his party migration was true.
Mustapa stood up and answered “yes”.
