Malacca PKR internal conflict resolved, says Anwar after reconciliation meet

The internal conflict in Malacca PKR over the appointment of its chairperson as a state senator has been resolved, claimed party president Anwar Ibrahim today.
He announced this when speaking to the media after chairing a reconciliation meeting between state PKR chairperson Halim Bachik and two Malacca state exco members - Ginie Lim and Jailani Khamis - at his office in Petaling Jaya today.
The meeting was held following an incident on Monday when Lim and Jailani had abstained from voting on a motion at the Malacca state assembly to appoint Halim to the senatorial position.
According to Anwar, both the assemblypersons also issued an apology for causing confusion that there was a rift in the Malacca Pakatan Harapan state government.

"Both exco members Ginie and Jailani have given their explanations and apologised for the confusion.
"They want to follow the right process and their support for the state government under chief minister Adly Zahari is intact. So there is no issue of any crack in the Harapan state government.
"On the issue of senatorship, where Halim was suggested to be appointed as one, that will be put on hold according to the (state assembly) schedule.
"The matter would go through due process of internal party discussions and there is no need to rush this as the next state assembly sitting is only in March next year," said Anwar.
The meeting is believed to have started at about 3.15pm when Lim arrived at the premises in Bukit Gasing, while Jailani came about an hour later just before the press conference was held in front of the office building.
Lim, who was all smiles when she arrived, however, seemed to be struggling to maintain a cheerful face after the meeting.
Halim, who was accompanied by Klebang assemblyperson Gue Teck to the meeting, also seemed to be in a serious mood.
Anwar said the parties involved had also discussed the allegations of nepotism and cronyism in Malacca PKR and brushed it off as 'kekhilafan penafsiran' or misinterpretation.
"We discussed it and all these have been concluded as a misinterpretation. This means there is no further issue.
"What was raised in this meeting was about the room to discuss according to due process. That was what all of them asked for, and I agreed to this."
The consensus reached by the trio also cancels out an earlier statement made by the state PKR leadership urging for Lim and Jailani to be subjected to party disciplinary action, said Anwar.
Meanwhile, according to Lim, Halim’s senatorship issue will be discussed at a later time within the state party framework.
"Not yet (decided). What is important was that we asked for the discussion process to take place so that we would be able to arrive at the best decision," she said.
She also expressed appreciation to Anwar for the initiative to find a solution for the state PKR.
Halim said he also accepted the decision made in the discussion.
"We will discuss internally to find the best solution to strengthen the party and support the current government," said Halim.
It was reported on Monday that a motion to nominate Halim as a senator was defeated by one vote as Lim, who is Machap Jaya assemblyperson and Jailani (Rembia) had left the assembly prior to voting.
The duo's actions had sparked rumours that there was instability within the state Harapan ruling coalition.
This was further fueled by a statement by state opposition leader Idris Haron (above) a day later, who said that all 13 of their assemblypersons were ready to support any motion of no-confidence against Adly.
However, both Lim and Jailani had immediately quashed the speculation on the same day, when they told the press that their walkout from voting had nothing to do with undermining the state government, but was due to being upset with the state PKR leadership. - Mkini
