Zahid: Just offering my views, not undermining the court

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi does not consider his statement on the acquittal of Sam Ke Ting over the deaths of eight teenagers, to be an insult to the court.
He said he was only asking questions about the technical grounds that led to Sam's acquittal by the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court's on a charge of reckless driving, leading to the death of eight teenage cyclists in 2017.
"I have given my opinion, I did not touch the legal system or the authorities such as judges and other posts.
“What I wanted to emphasise was the (sorrow) of the parents who lost their children and also the public’s perception towards the teenagers.

“This issue was played up by those in the government,” he said during a walkabout at Pekan Kukup jetty to support BN candidate Wee Jeck Seng in the Tanjung Piai by-election.
Zahid said he is confident that this issue will not affect BN voters in the area.
Zahid's remarks struck a different tone from the one he used in a ceramah two days ago, when he claimed that the law is being abused under the watch of the Pakatan Harapan government and attorney-general Tommy Thomas.
"When eight children playing on their bicycles in Johor were hit by a woman (driver), that woman was released as though there was no evidence.
"Those children have died, they have become arwah (the deceased)," Zahid said in his speech.
In a statement, Johor Harapan Youth chief Taqiuddin Cheman has since lodged a police report on the matter saying Zahid questioning the acquittal of the driver had caused tensions and challenged the integrity of the courts. - Mkini
