Mega-projects ECRL, MRT2 and NFCP to continue

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that several mega-projects will carry on under the government’s RM250 billion economic stimulus package to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak.
“The government will continue implementing projects where allocations were given in Budget 2020 including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the MRT2 and the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).
“This is in line with the government’s focus to ensure sustainable economic growth,” he said.
The cost of the ECRL is RM44 billion, the MRT2 RM13.11 billion and the NFCP RM21.6 billion.
Small projects budget doubled
Muhyiddin also announced that Putrajaya will be spending an additional RM2 billion on small-scale projects to stimulate the economy.
“The government has identified several small projects like road repair works,  upgrading dilapidated schools in Sabah and Sarawak, cleaning up places of worship and police stations and improving tourism facilities.
“These will benefit contractors in the G1 to G4 classes,” he said.
According to the Works Ministry, G1 contractors can tender for construction projects worth RM200,000 and below; G2 RM500,000 and below; G3 RM1 million and below and G4 RM3 million and below.
This is on top of the RM2 billion allocation the PM previously announced for bumiputera contractors to undertake small-scale projects.
This first RM2 billion tranche of projects will begin on April 1.
Muhyddin said that RM600 million will go to infrastructure projects, RM350 million to upgrading dilapidated schools in East Malaysia and RM150 million to repairing public housing for the hardcore poor.  - Mkini
