Now, private hospitals can’t get face masks

There have been complaints of a shortage of face masks in the country as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases continues to rise.
PETALING JAYA: The Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM) voiced concern today over a lack of three-ply and N95 face masks as well as other protective equipment amid the steady increase in Covid-19 cases.
In a statement, the association said the situation impacts the safety of both patients and staff.
“Local manufacturers continue exporting such items while private hospitals are crying out for supplies.
“It’s time the health ministry and domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry work together to address this.”
The APHM is the latest to voice out on the lack of face masks. Previously, the Consumers Association of Penang urged Putrajaya to take over the import and supply of face masks in the country to address the shortage.
In its statement, APHM also said it was ready to work with the health ministry to manage the current surge in Covid-19 cases.
APHM said its members had recently met to come up with recommendations on public-private partnership strategies which would be conveyed to the ministry.
A record high of 190 new Covid-19 cases were reported as of noon yesterday, bringing the total cases in Malaysia to 428. - FMT
