Melaka Tengah latest red zone district based on active cases

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Melaka Tengah is now the latest district in the country to be classified as a red zone based on active cases, bringing the total of such red zones to 17, according to the Health Ministry.
Yesterday, Melaka Tengah had 32 active cases, making it an orange zone. Today, the number of active cases in the district has increased to 65 cases.
Previously, the Health Ministry had only identified red zones by the number of cumulative confirmed positive cases of Covid-19.
However, the cumulative numbers may not accurately reflect the Covid-19 situation due to recoveries or deaths.
The ministry first revealed the number of active cases by district yesterday.
Any district with more than 40 confirmed Covid-19 cases are considered red zones. Districts with 20 to 40 cases are labelled as orange zones while those under 20 cases are listed as yellow zones.
Green zones are used for districts free of Covid-19.
Aside from Melaka Tengah, the other 16 red zones based on active cases are Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak, Klang, Cheras, Kepong, Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, Jasin, Seremban, Kluang, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Tawau.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has stressed multiple times during the ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conferences that the infectivity rate of the virus depends on the number of active cases.
