PAS MP urges gov't to reject lawyer accused of defending 'deviant views'

Malaysiakini

Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has urged Muslims to oppose the appointment of lawyer Eric Paulsen as a member of the communications and multimedia consultative council.
According to Fadhli (above), there is no motive or intention that could justify Paulsen's appointment as he accused the latter of having defended "deviant views" and causes that could purportedly destroy accepted social constructs.
"I am of the view that Muslims as a whole must rise to state their opposition to Paulsen's appointment as a member of the consultative council," he said.
"The government today must move based on new norms, and the new norm is one that rejects featuring deviant cultures which goes against Islam," said the PAS deputy Youth chief.
Fadhli in a Facebook post accused Paulsen of being known for supporting "destructive views" including liberalism, humanism, hedonism and LGBTQ.
Paulsen, however, declined comment.
"No comment. It is better that way (to not comment)," he told Malaysiakini.
Paulsen (above) is among 15 individuals appointed to the council set up as a platform for the government to discuss and get input from stakeholders on policies and issues related to communications and multimedia in the country.
Fadhli further urged Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, as chairperson of the council, to consider revoking Paulsen's appointment or risk a purported public outcry.
"Do not tarnish the government's image which is now seen in high regards by the rakyat with the action of only one individual.
"I urge the minister to consider this highly inappropriate appointment or face the risk of strong backlash from concerned Muslims," he said.
Last year, PAS had raised similar objections against Paulsen's appointment as Malaysia's representative to the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights 2019-2021, also by Saifuddin as then foreign minister under the Pakatan Harapan administration. - Mkini
