Ibrahim Ali considers contesting for Gombak seat

Maverick politician Ibrahim Ali is considering running for either the Gombak parliamentary seat currently held by Bersatu's Senior Minister Azmin Ali or a Kelantan constituency in the next general election.

The Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) president has contested the last eight general elections in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, winning on three occasions in 1986, 1990 and 2008.

Ibrahim said that his party will not join any coalition to face the 15th general election (GE15), in line with the party's concept of not wanting to be bound by certain bloc manifestos.

However, he added that Putra was open to working with the party that had the mandate to form the government if its support was needed, provided that the cooperation could help Putra's struggle.

“To form a government (after the election) is a different matter.

"When the election is over, we will look at the situation, if there is a party that wins and needs our support," he told Bernama after the Putra Wangsa Maju election machinery launch ceremony yesterday.

Ibrahim said Putra aimed to contest in 45 to 49 parliamentary seats nationwide in GE15 with 25 seats already shortlisted.

He confirmed that he will contest in the polls with the choice of either the Gombak parliamentary seat or a seat in Kelantan.

Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia president Abdul Rani Kulup

Meanwhile, Utusan reported that another maverick politician, Abdul Rani Kulup, has joined Putra and will contest in the Bandar Tun Razak seat.

The Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia president said he had decided to join politics after 22 years of fighting to bring the voice of the people through the NGO platform.

"All this time I have been fighting. I have voiced the people's problems by way of police reports until people call me 'king of reports'.

"I want to get involved in politics not because I want power, but because without power I can't do anything.

"This is my opportunity to change the political landscape of the country, give me the opportunity to go to Parliament so that I can speak out in defence of the religion and race," Abdul Rani added. - Mkini
