MCO in Sandakan

 

MCO in Sandakan follows a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district.

PETALING JAYA: Sandakan in Sabah will go under the movement control order (MCO) from April 17 until April 30, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

This follows a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district.

Ismail said the ministry had also recorded 46 new cases today and a total of 6,806 cases were recorded in the district.

In a statement today, he also announced that a school in Kelantan and a police training centre (Pulapol) as well as its staff quarters in Sarawak, will come under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from April 16 to 29.

The school, SMU (A) Tarbiah Diniah Tahfiz Bunut Sarang Burung, Mukim Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat will be under EMCO after 50 out of 113 Covid-19 screening tests returned positive.

Meanwhile, Kuching Pulapol and its staff quarters will be under EMCO after 123 positive cases were recorded.

Ismail also announced an extension to the EMCO at the Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas, Melaka and an MCO extension at Tawau district, Sabah from April 17 to 30.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Kampung Baji in Sarikei and Sungai Rassau in Batang Igan, Matu, both in Sarawak, as well as the Sungai Tenegang factory housing in Kinabatangan, Sabah, will end today as scheduled.

Further, the EMCO at Kampung Binyu Lama, Kuching and Kampung Binyu Baru, Samarahan both in Sarawak will also end today, two days earlier than scheduled.

Meanwhile, 55 people were arrested yesterday for flouting the MCO, 54 of whom were issued a compound, while one was remanded.

Among the offences committed includes failing to register prior to entering a premises, and failing to observe social distancing or wearing a face mask.

Regarding the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 174,360 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 2020 to April 14, 2021 and were placed under quarantine.

A total of 1,412 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 165,298 have been allowed to return home.

Some 7,650 people are undergoing mandatory quarantine. - FMT
