LRT crash: Six passengers in critical state at HKL - minister

Six passengers involved in the Light Rail Transit (LRT) collision last night are in a critical state at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa tweeted that three of the six crash victims were on ventilators.

He said 15 other passengers were in a semi-critical state, while 43 more were not critical.

"Thank you to all staff of HKL's Emergency Department who worked tirelessly until 1.38am... 64 victims of the collision were taken to HKL.

"This is the latest update 1) Critical: 6 of which 3 were intubated; 2) semi-Critical: 15 ; 3) Non-Critical: 43. I thank you," he tweeted today.

The Fire and Rescue Department said the underground tunnel collision at 9.15pm yesterday involved train number 240 and train number 181 that were plying the Kelana Jaya line.

It confirmed that the Gombak-bound train 181 from KLCC with 213 passengers moving at 40km/hour collided with the empty train 240 - with one driver and operator - moving at 20km/hour from the opposite direction on the same track.

Aftermath photos from the scene showed bleeding passengers and bloodstained LRT cabins, believed to be from the impact of the crash.

The preliminary report stated that 166 people sustained light injuries while 47 others were more seriously hurt. - Mkini
