Woman submits more 'evidence' linking Gombak Setia rep to rape claims

A woman who implicated Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham in rape allegations against two men said to be the Bersatu politician's associates, has submitted more evidence in connection with his alleged role in "setting up" the incident.

Lawyer Asheeq Ali said his client was present at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters this morning for about one hour to submit further evidence on her second police report over the alleged rape incident on Dec 5 last year.

"We have given our full cooperation to the police and we hope investigations into this case will be completed soon, given the serious nature of allegations made," Asheeq told Malaysiakini.

According to the victim's first report, Hilman, who she was “going out with” at the time, took her to a hotel in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate her birthday on Dec 4, along with one of the men and two female friends.

She claimed the other man, a Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party leader, joined the group later during a karaoke session after dinner, where they got drunk.

This is the third time the woman has been called to record her statement.

On May 11, she was present at the Brickfields District police station to submit evidence over alleged intimidation to withdraw her initial report made on Dec 5.

Her second report, meanwhile, was made to detail the alleged intimidation and Hilman's alleged role in "setting up" the rape incident at a hotel room in Sri Hartamas after her birthday celebration.

Her initial statement to the police from last December had at the time led to the arrest of two suspects who were subsequently released on police bail.

Asheeq today said they had inquired about the status of investigations against Hilman, including on when the Bersatu politician would be called to have his statement recorded, but was told the information could not be revealed.

"Police said they can’t reveal this because it's still under investigation," he added.

Hilman has yet to respond to multiple requests for comments.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Saiful Annuar Yusoff previously said Hilman would be called for the first time in connection with the case, but he declined to reveal further details. - Mkini
