Delay in CLP results due to MCO, says qualifying board

Candidates who sat for their CLP exams earlier this year had complained about the delay on the announcement of the results.

PETALING JAYA: The results of the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination will be delayed slightly because of the movement control order (MCO) in place, the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) said.

The director of the board’s CLP examination, Jamhirah Ali, said they were on track to announce the results of the 1,992 candidates within three months of the examination later this month but the implementation of the MCO had derailed their plans.

Jamhirah said the examination was not just about marking the papers and announcing the results as it goes through a stringent process to ensure the integrity, credibility, and accuracy of the examination is maintained at all times before it is tabled to the board for its approval.

“All the processes are carried out under strict supervision and cannot be done via online or when we are working from home during the MCO due to its high confidentiality,” she told FMT in an email.

Jamhirah emphasised that the targeted date to announce the CLP 2020 results was the end of June this year as the examination was conducted from March 29 to Apri l8, 2021.

“So it has just been slightly over two months since the last paper. Under normal circumstances, it takes about two and a half to three months for the Board to finalise and announce the results.

“However, due to the total lockdown since June 1, it may inevitably cause a slight delay,”

She was responding to complaints from some of the candidates who claimed there had been a delay on the announcement of the results, half of whom had had their examinations delayed from last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We were in the midst of finalising the results but unfortunately, the LPQB office was forced to close because of the lockdown. We will announce the date when we finalise the results after the total lockdown is lifted and we are allowed to return to the office,” she added.

She hoped the candidates would understand that the situation was out of their control due to the pandemic which has caused uncertainties, adding that the board had always strived to do its best. - FMT
