PETALING JAYA: There are still over 37,000 free laptops yet to be delivered to students from B40 families, the education ministry said today.
As part of the 2021 budget, the Tabung Cerdik initiative had committed to providing 150,000 laptops to students from lower-income group families through Yayasan Hasanah, a foundation under Khazanah Nasional.
In a parliamentary response to Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun yesterday, senior education minister Radzi Jidin said that as of Sept 20, 112,356 units have been distributed to students from 910 schools across the country.
However, 16,577 have been received by Yayasan Hasanah and will be distributed to students “in the near future.”“The remaining 21,067 units will be distributed once it is received by Yayasan Hasanah.”
However, earlier this month, finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz had said that 130,000 laptops had been distributed.
Speaking at the National Recovery Summit, Tengku Zafrul said Tabung Cerdik was on track to deliver all the free laptops by the end of this month. - FMT
