The DAP is calling on the Election Commission (EC) to consult with all political parties regarding the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the upcoming Malacca state election.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was concerned that without consultation, the guidelines may end up favouring the ruling government.
"If the (SOPs) are set by (the EC) alone without consultation with political parties, we fear it may be done to favour one side only," he said at a press conference in Malacca today.
Campaigning in Malacca is set to begin on Nov 8, with polling on Nov 20.
EC chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh had said that there would be strict guidelines in place.
However, Lim said he had concerns about the EC's impartiality after Ghani's gaffes at yesterday's press conference.
The EC chief had initially read out the wrong date for polling day, as well as implied that there would have been vaccination rules in place at polling stations before correcting himself on both matters.
"What happened yesterday raises a lot of doubts regarding the authority and credibility of the commission," Lim said.
The DAP leader hoped the commission would carry out its duties impartially. - Mkini
