Terengganu PKR: What happened to Pandora Papers probe?

Terengganu PKR has urged Putrajaya to reveal updates on investigations concerning the Pandora Papers which revealed the existence of off-shore accounts of numerous prominent Malaysians.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail said it has been months since the Pandora Papers emerged in October last year but there have been no updates.

"From the looks of it, it has been swept under the carpet, despite Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob's assurances.

"I urge the government to reveal the report (if any) to Malaysians with the purpose of restoring investors' confidence," he added.

Since October last year, news organisations around the globe began publishing articles based on the Pandora Papers - a leaked document detailing off-shore accounts.

The coverage of the Pandora Papers was coordinated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

Malaysiakini's participation in the project revealed that several MPs and a cabinet minister had off-shore accounts.

They include Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, Deputy Finance Minister Yamani Hafez Musa, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Selayang MP William Leong.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had on several occasions sought Parliament's permission to debate the matter but was unsuccessful.

Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told Parliament in October last year that the government will probe the allegations and for the results to be reported to Parliament. - Mkini
