Najib: No Covid-19 SOP violation fine for DAP and friends?

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has questioned why Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang was not fined for embracing party members at the DAP’s annual congress last weekend.

This follows reports that Lim and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who was also spotted at the congress, tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday.

Aside from wishing Lim a speedy recovery on Facebook, Najib just could not resist taking a quick jab at the DAP veteran for his alleged breach of the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

Najib said he noticed many individuals hugging Lim at the congress after the latter announced his retirement from politics on Sunday.

“Why is it that Anugerah Juara Lagu celebrities were fined for hugging but no compound for the DAP by the Health Ministry?

“I don’t mean to be malicious, but this gang (DAP members) takes pleasure in accusing me of violating the SOP, so often that (Health Minister) Khairy Jamaluddin has fined me many times,” Najib posted.

He also suggested that DAP MPs who had hugged Lim go into quarantine and not come into Parliament (which is in session until March 24) or pose the risk of infecting the entire Dewan Rakyat.

Upon hearing that Anwar had tested positive for Covid-19, Najib quipped: "Next time, don't hug (him) so tightly."

On March 10, Khairy announced that five compound notices had been issued to Najib for non-compliance with the Covid-19 SOP during his Johor election campaign trail.

However, it was reported that only one of the five compound notes had been successfully handed over on March 8.

Last May, Najib was fined RM3,000 for violating the Covid-19 SOP during a visit to a chicken rice shop in central Kuala Lumpur.- Mkini
