Covid-19 (May 2): 1,352 new cases, five deaths

 


The Health Ministry yesterday reported 1,352 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 4,450,859.

The fresh infections are the lowest since Oct 31, 2020, but it should be noted that reporting may be lower due to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season.

Health authorities also recorded five new fatalities yesterday, putting the death toll at 35,555.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (680)

Kuala Lumpur (166)

Penang (103)

Malacca (92)

Johor (74)

Perak (73)

Negeri Sembilan (42)

Sarawak (35)

Kedah (17)

Kelantan (15)

Sabah (14)

Terengganu (14)

Putrajaya (14)

Pahang (11)

Perlis (1)

Labuan (1)

Active cases stood at 36,441, a decline of 60.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

The five new fatalities were reported in Selangor (3), Perak (1) and Sarawak (1). One of them was brought in dead.

Over the past week, an average of 6.9 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 16.2, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

There were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 deaths in March.

There are 930 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 66 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (89) followed by Johor (77) and Sabah (46). - Mkini
