The Telegram account of Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah was hacked by
"irresponsible parties" last night, Saifuddin announced.
This came several hours after the personal Telegram account of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was hit.
Saifuddin, in announcing the matter via a Twitter post, said the party which hacked his account had also abused his name and picture through the application.
"Whoever receives any message from my Telegram has been advised to ignore and report them to the authorities,” he said in his tweet.
Yesterday evening, Ismail Sabri said his Telegram account had been hacked by irresponsible parties and asked members of the public to ignore messages from the account.
Telegram is a messaging application, similar to WhatsApp, with an emphasis on security as it has end-to-end encryption and self-deleting messages.
However, it is not invulnerable to unauthorised access. In the past, several articles and online videos had demonstrated that spoofing techniques could be used to hijack Telegram accounts.
In 2019, a leaked Telegram group chat led to the resignation of Puerto Rican governor Ricardo Rosselló. In total, 889 pages of chat logs were leaked, purportedly by hackers.
Telegram was created by Russian brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, who also co-founded VK - Russia's largest social networking site. - Mkini
