KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Fadillah Yusof has rubbished Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) claim that voting for GPS would not benefit Sarawak.
The claim was made by PBK president Voon Lee Shan who called for Sarawakians to reject GPS in the 15th general election (GE15).
In a statement, Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president, said having more MPs from GPS in the federal government would result in a stronger, more assertive voice for Sarawak and its people.
He added that the coalition’s track record since its formation in 2018 had proven that a strong bloc of GPS MPs in the government had led to more benefits for Sarawak.
“Voon Lee Shan telling Sarawakians to weaken GPS and not to vote for GPS in the upcoming GE15 based on his twisted idea that a strong federal government does not benefit Sarawak is utter nonsense and simply does not make any sense,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
Apart from PBB, the other parties in GPS are Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
PBK is one of the local opposition parties in Sarawak and recently, it has been collaborating with two other local parties, namely Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS). - FMT
