PETALING JAYA: A construction worker was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,400 by the magistrates’ court for stealing two women’s underwear last week.
Liew Chee Hoong, 45, who appeared before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah, pleaded guilty after the charge was read out to him.
He will have to serve a jail term of three months if he fails to pay the fine.
The offence was committed at a house in Bandar Sri Damansara and he was arrested on Feb 23.
He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code for committing theft and could have been jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.
Liew was unrepresented and pleaded for leniency as he only earned around RM1,000 per month.
He said he also had to support his grandfather.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Kamal requested for an appropriate punishment to ensure Liew would not commit the offence again.
“I urge the court to also take into account the facts of the case, where the act of the accused kissing the underwear may point towards Liew committing a sexual offence in the future,” she said. - FMT
