PETALING JAYA: Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) is closing down its outlet at 3 Damansara Mall here this month.

In a notice to shoppers, the mall’s management said the GSC cinema will shutter operations on March 18.

“As we move forward, we are committed to enhancing the shopping experience at 3 Damansara and providing a diverse range of offerings.

“We are currently exploring new opportunities for this space to bring exciting new brands and unique experiences to our shoppers. Thank you for your continued support,” it said.

In August last year, GSC shut down its outlet at Alamanda shopping centre in Putrajaya.

GSC’s parent company, PPB Group Bhd, reportedly recorded RM120 million in net losses in 2023, an exponential increase compared to the RM17 million in losses the year before.

Two days ago, The Edge quoted PPB as saying it was bracing for a tough year ahead for the film exhibition and distribution sector.

It said the strike by the Hollywood Writers’ Guild last year had affected the supply of film content for cinemas in the medium-term. - FMT
