From Ibrahim M Ahmad
Is the bankrupt head of department at the medical faculty of the yet-to-be-named public university still holding office, and if so, on what basis?
That is the question higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir must answer immediately.
On April 29, Zambry called on the university in question to furnish his ministry with a full report on the matter.
One week later, the matter appears to have gone silent. Why?
There is no reason why the preparation of such a report should take longer than a couple of days.
Surely, the identity of the person is already known to both the university and the minister.
All the university needs to do is verify his bankruptcy status (which can be done online in 10 minutes or less) and explain why the appointment was made despite his bankruptcy.
Let’s put it this way: there is no question the person is a bankrupt, otherwise the denials would have come out fast and furious.
In fact, Zambry does not even need to wait for the university’s report.
He can already instruct the bankrupt’s removal from the post and any other office he holds summarily, or at least have him suspended while matters take their course.
After all, there appears to be a clear violation of government regulations and policy.
Something is clearly not right here.
Is the government and the university trying to sweep matters under the carpet? Why? - FMT
