No need for PN to discuss PM other than Muhyiddin - Peja

Bersatu has joined Gerakan in reminding PAS that there is no need for Perikatan Nasional to discuss the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate other than Muhyiddin Yassin.

Utusan Malaysia quoted Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as saying it is also too early to discuss strategies to face the 16th general election.

“Let us see, (Bersatu deputy president) Hamzah Zainuddin is the opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat, but (Bersatu president) Muhyiddin is PN parliamentary chief. So what does that mean? If we face an election, who is our general?” he said, implying that the Pagoh MP’s role is already clear.

“For that reason, I don’t see there is any other leader that needs to be lifted as (PN’s) prime ministerial candidate because the decision to place Muhyiddin as the PN MPs’ chief in Parliament is a joint decision and not just Bersatu,” he said.

Faizal (above) was responding to PAS flexing its muscles through its spiritual leader Hashim Jasin who said that the Islamist party is more qualified to spearhead the coalition.

“I respect the stand taken by the PAS spiritual leader, but I am also confident that PAS will not make a unilateral decision,” the former youth and sports minister said.

Hashim’s remark was prompted by Faizal’s initial statement during an interview with Malaysiakini recently, that if others in the coalition harbour ambitions to become prime minister, they should stop dreaming.

Yesterday, Gerakan president Dominic Lau also made it clear that Muhyiddin is the coalition’s candidate for the prime minister post, citing the former premier’s experience and leadership qualities.

PAS currently has the most parliamentary seats in PN, with Bersatu coming in at a distant second and Gerakan with nothing under its belt. - Mkini
